‘I think it’s wrong’ – West Brom legend furious with Baggies star who’s pushing for exit

This Nathan Ferguson issue at West Brom is a really sad one, but it feels like it has an inevitable ending at this point.

His contract is up at the end of the season and he has refused to sign fresh terms. He wants out, it’s as simple as that.

That’s frustrating considering it was Baggies boss Slaven Bilic who gave him his big break this season. The youngster played well enough to seemingly earn a January move to Crystal Palace, only for that to break down when he picked up a knee injury.

Now, West Brom legend Ally Robertson has been speaking about his disappointment with the whole situation.

“It looks as though Nathan Ferguson’s career at Albion will come to a sad end in the summer,” he wrote in his column for the Express & Star.

“And that’s such a shame when you consider the journey he has been on in the space of just a few months.

“Slaven gave him an opportunity to play, he put him in the limelight. You have to give Ferguson credit too, he has seized that chance.

“But when it is Bilic and Albion who have made him, I think it’s wrong that he and his agent are now trying so hard to get a move out.

“As we all know, his move to Palace collapsed due to a problem being discovered with his knee. The two clubs had agreed to a deal worth £12million. And that’s the real frustration for me now, if Ferguson and his agent want to behave like this they can go. I’m just disappointed we missed out on the money.

“We should still get some hefty compensation when he leaves as a free agent in the summer. But it probably won’t be quite as high, so this is a situation where there are no winners.”

You can see what Robertson is talking about, here. To have £12million there ready for West Brom to take and spend on a replacement, and then to have it taken away, is massively disappointing.

That may sound cold or crass, but that’s football. It’s a business after all. Ferguson will now leave for a lot less than what the Baggies would have got last month.

As to whether it’s wrong for him to push for an exit when Bilic gave him his big break, it does leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth. He’s cutting and running basically.

In other West Brom news, a former Premier League striker believes that Ferguson’s summer departure may now be in jeopardy.
