Noel Whelan has word of warning for West Brom ahead of Millwall clash
Sunday’s trip to London outfit Millwall gives West Brom the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Championship table.
However, the Lions are a good team in their own right, and have improved immensely under Gary Rowett.
Things have tapered off ever so slightly, but they’re still very much in the race for the play-off places.
So the Lions will present the Baggies with significant opposition on Saturday, and Slaven Bilic’s men will have to be at their best.
That’s certainly the view of former Premier League striker Noel Whelan, who has issued the Midlands giants a word of warning.
“Millwall are a very well-organised team, they’re very good going forward, they’ve got something about them,” he told Football Insider.
“Gary Rowett’s taken them to the next level, I think he’s done fantastically well at the football club. Very dangerous from set-pieces but some delightful football as well. It’s a difficult game.
“You’re going to get that passion from the fans, you’ve got to manage the emotions and the crowd because you know what you’re going to get. Out of play they’re just as good, set pieces they’re aggressive. If you don’t defend properly against Millwall, you’ll get punished.”
Whelan is absolutely right. Millwall are a very dangerous team with some fine players. They will present West Brom with problems on Sunday.
They have a very settled team, and players like Jed Wallace, Tom Bradshaw and Matt Smith can be a right handful.
However, Bilic will know that this is a golden opportunity for his team after Leeds United’s slip-up on Saturday.
