‘He doesn’t look the same’ – West Brom Super Fans name Saint and Sinner in win v Reading

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

West Brom moved six points clear at the top of the Championship table with their first away win at Reading since 1995 on Wednesday night as they came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory.

Kyle Bartley turned from villain to hero at the Madejski after he made up for conceding a first-half penalty to bag Albion’s winner in the 47th minute.

George Puscas slotted home from the spot-kick that Bartley gave away for a handball before Matheus Pereira levelled the scores just before the half-hour mark.

Bartley then scored the winner for Albion not long after half-time to see Slaven Bilic’s men earn their third consecutive victory to confirm that their automatic promotion bid is back on track.

Albion were clearly back to their best in terms of performance as they pressed forward and threatened Reading with just about every attack.

After the match we asked our panel of West Brom Super Fans to name their Saints and Sinners for the win over Reading and here is what they had to say:

Lee Armstrong (@UncleSock)

Jamie Rossiter (@Jay89R)

Jon W (@JonW1995)

Connor Moore (@Connormoore_wba)

Luke Pollard (@LukeyP_wba)

A couple of things stand out from what our Super Fans are saying about the best and worst performers at Reading.

Pereira has been amazing for West Brom this season and is without doubt in the running to win the Championship player of the year award but there are once again concerns about the performances of central midfielder Romaine Sawyers.

Sawyers initially impressed upon his return to The Hawthorns in the summer but lately, there has been increased criticism surrounding the 28-year-old.

Stats by WhoScored show that Sawyers’ passing did improve a lot at Reading in comparison to his performance at Millwall.

Sawyers completed just 39 passes at The Den on Sunday but completed 86 against the Royals – perhaps due to the ball being easier to control as Storm Ciara had an impact at the weekend.

Still, the ex-Walsall midfielder failed to impress some of our Super Fans and there are also supporters on social media who have been a little underwhelmed by his recent form.

In other West Brom news, David Prutton has predicted the scoreline of Saturday’s clash against Nottingham Forest.
