‘Next Henry’, ‘Unreal’ – Some West Brom fans thrilled with U23s ace display

Cheikh Diaby has been a bit of an enigma since joining West Brom to play for their Under-23s in October.

The 19-year-old joined the Baggies on a deal until the end of the season with the option for an extra year after a move to Valencia broke down due to a change of management at the Mestalla.

The fact that a prestigious club like Valencia wanted Diaby from Le Havre – the team that helped develop the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Paul Pogba, Lassana Diarra, Dimitri Payet and Riyad Mahrez – meant that a lot of West Brom fans were excited about the French teenager’s arrival.

However months went by and Diaby was nowhere to be seen for West Brom’s Under-23s – until recently.

Diaby finally made his debut for the Baggies’ development side on February 6 when he scored against Scunthorpe’s Under-23s before being substituted off just after the hour mark.

He then featured against Newcastle to make his Premier League 2 debut before being played today (Thursday) against Scunthorpe once again, this time in the Premier League Cup.

Diaby has become somewhat of a scourge for the Iron already, as he bagged a hat-trick at Keys Park in Hednesford this week, much to the delight of West Brom fans who had been waiting to see him in action for some time.
