View: Display in West Brom win v Reading proves Dowling unearthed proper gem in summer

What a signing Matheus Pereira has proven to be for West Brom since joining on loan from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old scored his sixth goal of the Championship season on Wednesday night as the Baggies came from behind to win 2-1 against Reading at the Madejski.

Albion had not won away at Reading since before Pereira was born but the Brazilian inspired what was a superb display this week to prove that Slaven Bilic’s side have their promotion bid back on track with a third victory in a row.

According to stats by WhoScored, Pereira completed three key passes, had six shots at goal, had a pass completion of 84 per cent and had 76 touches of the ball against Reading.

The Brazilian magician has not registered more shots at goal in a single game since joining West Brom in the summer and his 50 total passes was his third-best total in an away game.

Pereira is going from strength to strength at the minute and that is helping West Brom too in their bid to secure automatic promotion back to the top-flight.

Luke Dowling played an absolute blinder when he signed Pereira in the summer.

Albion’s technical director was rightly criticised for a lot of his transfer business in his first full season at The Hawthorns but his business, alongside Slaven Bilic and Mark Jenkins, this season has to be hailed.

Pereira is an absolute gem of a player and the Baggies are so lucky to have him on what will soon be a permanent deal if he makes two more league appearances before the end of the season.

In other West Brom news, this 18-year-old has left Albion on loan.
