Nigel Quashie shares definitive verdict on West Brom chances of promotion this season
West Brom legend Nigel Quashie has claimed that the Baggies are far from sealing promotion to the Premier League this season.
Quashie admitted that it was pivotal that his former side got out of their bad run in January and turned it around this month – something he believes has happened after back-to-back away wins against Reading and Millwall.
It was suggested that there is still far too long to go in the Championship season to consider promotion a formality, and it could come back to haunt the Midlands club if they believe that.
Quashie shared that although the recent wins were vitally important, the Baggies must now push on and stamp their authority even further.
“No definitely not,” he told Football League World when asked if promotion was secured.
“I still think there is a long way to go and there are points to play for. They have obviously got the points on the board, two great away wins and performances to be honest.
“They had a bad January with difficult results, but I think they have got over that and I think it is time for them to really push on now.”
Quashie is spot on in his verdict. Both West Brom and Leeds had considerable double point gaps to the play-offs only two months ago, and although the Baggies still hold a six-point gap, it has been cut considerably.
When you bring in the remaining fixtures to play, West Brom haven’t exactly got the easiest of run-ins between now and the end of the season.
According to this graphic on Twitter, the Baggies have the second hardest run-in of any club in the top-six of the Championship, with four games against their nearest rivals yet to play – starting on Saturday.
