Keith Andrews delivers verdict on Livermore incident in West Brom v Forest
Keith Andrews has suggested that Jake Livermore was lucky to avoid being sent off as West Brom drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
In the first-half, Livermore caught Yuri Ribeiro with a late challenge before appearing to shout at the Forest player as he lay on the ground in pain.
Referee Keith Stroud – who had an awful match – failed to punish Livermore for the challenge, which was discussed at half-time by ex-West Brom midfielder Andrews.
“It was a little bit more than [a coming together],” he said on Sky Sports Main Event on Saturday.
“I have to think that there’s previous here because we’re down the opposite end of the pitch and you assume he’s trying to get the ball. But he hasn’t.
“You assume he’s trying to block it and he’s not. He’s done him and he’s very, very fortunate to escape a red card, especially with where the officials are.
“He has a look, there’s the little stamp just below his knee.”
Livermore was a lucky boy to have not been sent off.
Stroud made a catalogue of terrible decisions at The Hawthorns on Saturday that had an impact on both sides.
As well as the Livermore incident, Forest were aggrieved about a foul in the build-up to Albion’s second goal and the Baggies should have been awarded a goal in stoppage time.
VAR has been a major talking point this season in the Premier League any many football fans do not want it to make it’s way into the EFL.
But you get the feeling that some people might push for it to be introduced into the Championship if referees are getting as many things wrong as they did on Saturday.
In other West Brom news, Don Goodman aimed bizarre criticism at Matheus Pereira for his display against Forest.
