View: West Brom and Nottm Forest spat on social media is childish

If you’ve been on Twitter over the past couple of days then there’s a good chance you will have seen a social media jousting match between West Brom and Nottingham Forest.

It all began on Saturday when Forest’s Twitter manager said that referee Keith Stroud was “furious” that he had to book Albion star Matt Phillips, in a dig at the official’s performance in the 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns.

Then followed some really childish tweets by what is supposed to be an official channel of communication between the club and the supporters.

When West Brom posted the full-time result on their Twitter account, Forest’s replied to Albion’s fair summary of the last-ditch action by, once again, pointing out the bias of Stroud.

It was all a bit pathetic in a clear effort to try and force engagement from the school children who’ve just logged into Twitter to celebrate the start of half term.

And it didn’t stop there.

Forest then took another dig at West Brom – who hadn’t put anything untoward on their account – poking fun at the fact they only had one shot on target.

And guess what? It didn’t stop there either as Forest also went on to point out some really plain stats for Yuri Ribeiro, who was the victim of a poor challenge by Jake Livermore in the match.

Fair enough, it was a poor challenge by Livermore and he was lucky to have not been sent off. But the constant poking at Albion really is childish – especially as the draw was more of a bad result for Forest as it was for the league leaders, who only extended their gap to third place with a point.

West Brom responded to the digs on Monday with a tweet of their own, simply saying “rent free” and highlighting all of the above tweets with a sleepy emoji.

Albion should have just kept quiet on this one, effectively taking the high road.

It’s all childish and while it doesn’t cause any harm, it just comes across as being unprofessional.

In other West Brom news, Callum Robinson has been raving about his new team-mates at Albion.
