Exclusive: Kevin Phillips names which game was ‘best performance of the season’ by West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips believes that West Brom’s best performance of the season came when they beat Millwall 2-0 at The Den earlier this month.

Albion made their way down to the capital despite Storm Ciara battering the nation and ensured they would return to the West Midlands with three points in the bag.

Filip Krovinovic and Dara O’Shea were both on the scoresheet in that match as the Baggies really showed their quality in the difficult conditions at one of the toughest away grounds to visit.

West Brom followed up their win at Millwall with a victory against Reading before seeing their three-match winning streak come to an end with a 2-2 draw against promotion rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Phillips expected big things from that showdown at The Hawthorns based on what he has recently seen from the two sides.

“We all knew it was going to be a big game and I’ve watched both teams recently,” Phillips told West Brom News.

“I watched Forest in the flesh a couple of weeks ago and I watched West Brom down at Millwall and I thought that was their best performance of the season.

“Both teams were coming into the game in form so we knew it was going to be a highly entertaining game.”

That win against Millwall was definitely one of the best displays of the season by Slaven Bilic’s side.

There was a huge impact on the game by the weather, yet Albion still managed to come out on top and really show that they had rediscovered their form after a testing December and January.

If they can play the same way they did against Millwall in every game this season then promotion will surely be in the bag.

In other West Brom news, there’s been an update on whether Albion will be signing free agent Martin Olsson.
