Loaned-out West Brom attacker suggests he wants to find new club
West Brom flop Oliver Burke has suggested that he wants to find himself a new club at the end of the season.
Burke, 22, has spent the campaign on loan at La Liga club Alaves where he has scored one goal and supplied one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions.
He scored his first goal for the Spanish club earlier this month in their 2-1 win against Eibar but has still only made seven league starts this term.
Since joining West Brom for £15million in August 2017, Burke has failed to live up to his price-tag and has not impressed at either The Hawthorns or at Celtic, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.
But that has not stopped the Scotland international from wanting to silence his critics and use his spell at Alaves to possibly find a new home in the summer transfer window.
“For me, right now I’d like to find myself a club where I can settle, enjoy and play week in, week out,” said Burke, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“And find my confidence again, which I’m slowly getting back, to prove all the doubters out there wrong.
“There’s a lot of doubters out there – there’s always going to be – but I’d love to throw it back in their face a little bit.
“Hopefully I can do my best here at Alaves and I’ll have a bright future.”
Burke struggled to get game-time for West Brom in the Premier League and Championship, was hardly a key player at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and is by no means a mainstay of Alaves’ starting line-up this season.
Albion are going to find it tough to offload the Scot in the summer considering they paid so much for him and he is still going to have another two years left on his contract, which is why he has been loaned out in the last two campaigns.
It may be a case of the Baggies simply cutting their losses on the former Nottingham Forest attacker or seeing if, after a spell in Spain and a full pre-season training programme, can get up to speed in the Black Country.
However Burke has had plenty of chances at West Brom now and it simply hasn’t worked for him.
