West Brom ace Chris Brunt shares thoughts on future, admits what is ‘pretty scary’

West Brom veteran Chris Brunt has admitted that it is a scary thought that his playing career is coming to an end.

Brunt, 35, is West Brom’s longest-serving player and has been on the books at The Hawthorns since August 2007. However his spell in blue and white stripes is set to end in the summer when his contract expires.

The former Northern Ireland international almost left the Baggies last month when a move to Stoke City was widely reported to have broken down on transfer deadline day.

Slaven Bilic has barely used Brunt this season with the midfielder appearing just eight times across all competitions and failing to start a single game in the Championship.

The set-piece maestro has revealed that, despite his age, he still feels as though he has at least one more season left in the tank and would want to seek out regular first-team football in the summer.

“This season I have played one game and then I have had three weeks to recover. If I can’t recover in three weeks I’ve got a bit of an issue,” Brunt said as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“That is something I won’t know until I do that. I want to play next season and keep going as long as I can because the thought of having to do something else is a pretty scary one to be honest.

“All I’ve wanted to do since I was six-years-old kicking a ball against my mum’s fence was play football and once that is taken away from you it is a massive reality check.”

Brunt will go down as a West Brom legend once his days at the club are over but unfortunately, it seems as though the day he will leave will come soon.

The 35-year-old has made 418 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, scored 49 goals and supplied 89 assists.

It would be great to see his final season at The Hawthorns result in promotion to the Premier League and a decent run in the FA Cup, where Brunt has captained the side in two wins against Charlton and West Ham.

Brunt deserves a great send-off and that would be the best way to do it.

In other West Brom news, this loaned-out Albion attacker has suggested he wants to find a new club in the summer.
