Confirmed: West Brom star to face no FA action over recent interactions, gets formal warning
West Brom striker Charlie Austin has avoided further action from the FA for his recent interaction with a Southampton fan on Twitter.
Sky Sports confirmed on Friday evening that the Baggies forward has instead received a formal warning for his actions.
Austin retweeted a comment to do with the dangers on social media but later responded to Southampton fans with an explosive rant over their fan base.
The FA had asked for Austin’s observations over the interactions which led to him being warned by the national governing body over the tweets that have since been deleted from his personal account.
It was a strange moment to see Austin challenge Southampton fans over social media, especially given that he is in the middle of a promotion push with the Baggies.
Austin is struggling to cement a spot at the Hawthorns, and Slaven Bilic will surely not have been happy to see one of his players sanctioned by the FA at such an important point of the season.
Looking at Austin’s stats, he still remains the club’s top-scorer this season despite primarily being used as a substitute in the Championship behind Hal Robson Kanu.
The 30-year-old has only averaged 1.8 shots on goal as well as 0.4 key passes according to WhoScored – Bilic will be wanting Austin to create more before he is given another start leading the line for the Baggies.
Now that he has escaped with a warning from the FA, everyone at the Hawthorns will be hoping that he can concentrate on his football more.
