View: Bilic comments on crocked West Brom midfielder reveals blow not so serious
Slaven Bilic has commented on Sam Field’s injury after the midfielder returned to West Brom from his loan spell at Charlton.
Field returned to the Hawthorns with a knee problem that he has failed to shake off in recent months in the capital.
Both Lee Bowyer and Bilic confirmed that the injury will keep the midfielder out until the end of the season – something which would suggest that he is in trouble with the problem.
Bilic’s recent comments would suggest otherwise though, with the Croatian claiming that Field is still out doing light training with the ball at his feet.
“Sam unfortunately still feels a bit in his knee, so he came back to sort it out completely – it’s nothing major, he can do everything, but when he strikes the ball then he feels it a bit,” he said to Birmingham Live.
“Is the ligament weak or whatever, but it’s not right. He’s back with us and the medical team, and he’s going to do the recovery here.”
The fact that he can still strike the ball and only slightly feel it means that it appears like a small knock that could be solved quite quickly, rather than the fear that enters your mind when ‘season-ending injury’ is mentioned.
Field was shining in the cameos he was given at the Valley by Bowyer, having made nine appearances in the Championship before picking up his knock in October.
The 21-year-old was averaging 1.8 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game according to WhoScored, only one player made more interceptions in the entire Addicks squad.
