Don Goodman heaps praise on West Brom after ‘huge’ week, points out what will stop complacency

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has claimed that the last week has been huge for West Brom in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Goodman has been heavily impressed with the Baggies, as their gap extended to nine-points to the play-offs with only them and Leeds winning from the top-five this week.

The former Wolves man admitted that the recent poor run of form will help Slaven Bilic, and stop complacency creeping back in at the Hawthorns in the next couple of months.

Goodman claimed that the pressure has been lifted off the shoulders of the players at the Hawthorns, with them back to their free-flowing best.

“I think this last week or so has been huge for West Bromich Albion and Leeds,” he said on the Sky Sports EFL Podcast.

“To watch Fulham not win in three, to watch Brentford not win in three, to watch Forest not win in three when they’re trying to close you down is ideal really, almost takes a little pressure off you.

“When you look at West Brom, the month of February, they got their mojo back. I also think that little bit of a wobble they had will be the thing that stops complacency from this point forward creeping in.”

There is a real belief amongst fans that this will certainly be the year the Baggies return to the top-flight, and with other faltering outside the top-two again, why wouldn’t there be?

Prediction expert Nate Silver has delved into the Championship on his website, FiveThirtyEight – claiming there is an 87% chance of West Brom earning promotion from this point.

On top of that, there is a 54% of them lifting the Championship title, with Leeds viewed as the only real contenders for the silverware.

Either way, West Brom fans will not care. Silverware is nice, but as long as the Baggies finish in the top two, that is all that matters.
