Leeds chief comments on West Brom, shares thoughts of rival squad at training ground
Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear has revealed that the Whites have set their sights firmly on catching West Brom in the Championship this season.
The Whites went within one point of Slaven Bilic’s men last time out after the shock 1-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic at the Hawthorns.
Many pundits have backed the current top two in the Championship for automatic promotion, with the only question for some being who will lift the title on the final day.
Kinnear has reaffirmed that Leeds’ sights are firmly set on West Brom towards the top of the table with many twists and turns ahead.
“However the focus at Thorpe Arch is on nothing more than the next game,” he wrote in his programme notes via the Yorkshire Post.
“The squad and coaching staff have retained their unflinching belief that while we have the quality and resilience to beat any team when playing at our potential.
“Accordingly the team are looking up towards catching West Brom and not down at the chasing pack.”
The Baggies have cemented their spot at the top of the league for many months now, and even in their bad run, they managed to stay on top.
Having said that, prediction expert Nate Silver recently changed his view on the Championship on his website FiveThirtyEight. West Brom have been clear favourites for promotion this season, but this week, the tables have turned in Leeds’ favour.
Silver predicts that Marcelo Bielsa’s side now stands a 97% chance of promotion compared to West Brom’s 89%. On top of that, Bilic’s men only have a 33% chance of lifting the title – we will stick with our hope that we remain on top come May.
