‘Not good enough’ – Livermore sends defiant message after West Brom lose top spot
West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore has admitted that his side were not good enough after their goalless draw at Swansea saw them lose top spot in the Championship.
The Baggies are now one point behind Leeds United, as their promotion rivals made it five wins on the bounce with clean sheets in the 2-0 victory against Huddersfield Town.
Livermore wasn’t best pleased and with games against Birmingham and Brentford around the corner, things need to improve.
The Baggies skipper claimed it could have been a good point, but that his side goes into games wanting to get all three with only nine left to play.
“It’s not doom and gloom because the boys have done well and we’ve got to keep our spirits up. We could pat each other on the back and say we did alright but unfortunately it’s fine lines in this league and that’s not good enough for where we want to be,” he told the club website.
“We’ve come to win the league but can only focus on ourselves. The gap’s still six points between us and third but ultimately we’re disappointed not to have come away with three points, but in the grand scheme of things it’s another point that’ll take us closer to where we need to be.”
On paper, a point on the road at Swansea is not a bad result, Slaven Bilic will have been happy that his side kept a clean sheet.
But, with Leeds looking as dangerous as they are at this moment it is vital that the Baggies try to get back on the horse as quickly as possible and start picking up wins.
They had the chances to do it at the Liberty Stadium, and they must start taking them to keep that gap to Fulham in third.
