West Brom youngster makes bold comparison to former winger now in CL: ‘Could be me’
West Brom youngster Kane Wilson has admitted that he could earn a place in England’s squad at the 2022 World Cup.
The defender is dreaming with that statement but made a bold comparison when asked about growing up in training with now Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry.
Many didn’t believe the German winger could make it at the top (excuse Tony Pulis) but now he is one of Munich’s brightest talents having dismantled both Chelsea and Tottenham almost single-handedly.
Wilson admitted that things like that can happen in football, and then went on to make the crazy suggestion of where he could be in two years time.
“At that time, I don’t think anyone at West Brom would have thought he (Gnabry) would go on to be what he is,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“But that’s football. I always say with things like that, England for instance, there’s someone that will go to the 2022 World Cup who no one even knows now. Maybe it could be me!”
Currently, on loan at Tranmere, he has a fight to even prove his worth to Slaven Bilic – Dara O’Shea has done it recently, so why can’t he?
With Nathan Ferguson seemingly on the way out of the club in the summer, there could be a spot available for Wilson down the right.
Lee Peltier hasn’t made much of an impact, and Darnell Furlong can play on either side so Wilson must be licking his lips at the prospect of first-team football at the Hawthorns.
One thing for sure is that O’Shea has cemented his spot in the side under Slaven Bilic. The 21-year-old impressed once again at Swansea, winning 10 aerial duels at the Liberty Stadium [WhoScored].
Wilson may be a dreamer, but let’s concentrate on getting up to the standard of the Baggies before keeping an eye on the England picture.
