Report: West Brom keen to sign Ireland midfielder in summer
Although West Brom are yet to know which division they’ll be playing in next season, the club has already been reported to have singled out a target for the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, the Baggies are keen on signing West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen, who has impressed while on loan at Charlton Athletic this season.
It is understood that Leeds, Bournemouth and Norwich are also interested in the 23-year-old, who will enter the final year of his deal at the London Stadium in the summer.
The Mail adds that while West Ham have been able to extend Cullen’s contract so that it does not expire this year, they are yet to reach an agreement over a new long-term deal.
That could be seen as a boost for West Brom, who will no doubt strengthen their central midfield options in the summer whether they win promotion or not.
Romaine Sawyers, Jake Livermore and Rekeem Harper are likely to be the only three players in that position who’ll stay at at The Hawthorns past the end of this season with Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry’s contracts set to expire.
Filip Krovinovic’s loan deal will also run out at the end of the campaign so Cullen could be seen as someone who can make up the numbers regardless of what division Slaven Bilic’s side is playing in.
Cullen has made 25 appearances in the Championship for Charlton this term and has experience at both international level with the Republic of Ireland and in the Premier League with West Ham.
