West Brom boss Slaven Bilic wants current season to be completed

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that he would like to see the currently-suspended Championship season to be completed at some point.

As it stands, Albion are sat second in the table, six points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine matches to play.

West Brom have shown they are more than worthy of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League for almost the entire campaign and although some of the ideas floating about in the media include the Baggies being handed promotion into a 22-team Premier League, Bilic would rather see the current campaign come to a fair conclusion at some point.

“Obviously, it would be the best solution for football if, at some point in the future, the fixtures can be re-arranged for the season to be concluded,” Bilic said, as quoted by the Express & Star.

“But there are far bigger issues at stake here than mere football matches and we all know that.”

As Bilic says, there are far more important things for people to be concerned with at the moment but, as it always has been, football is the great distraction for a major chunk of the English population and discussing the impact of coronavirus on the sport is a huge talking point.

Finishing the current season would be tough, especially if the coronavirus-forced suspension means that matches are still left to be played after the end of June.

Then there is next season to think about, Euro 2020, the Olympics – which are still going ahead in Japan – the summer transfer window and so on.

There is a minefield of issues to overcome.
