Matheus Pereira: I want to play in the Premier League and would love to do it with West Brom

West Brom loan star Matheus Pereira has revealed his desire to play in the Premier League with the Baggies.

Pereira, 23, has been a revelation since joining Albion on loan from Sporting CP in the summer, scoring six goals and supplying 16 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

West Brom have had their fair share of loanees who’ve become fan favourites over the years but supporters have seen a lot of them come and go without making their stay in the Black Country permanent.

However, it seems that Pereira is set to become a full-time West Brom player at some point in the future with him reportedly one 45-minute appearance away from triggering a permanent switch to The Hawthorns for £8.25million [Telegraph].

While the football season is still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, Albion still have the option to sign Pereira on a permanent basis whenever they wish, so it is inevitable that deal will be completed at some stage [Joseph Masi].

Speaking in an interview on the Baggies’ official website, Pereira has now all but confirmed his desire to stay put at the club.

“Our first objective is promotion,” said the Brazilian attacker. “I want to play in the Premier League and would love to do it with this club. I have a lot of ambitions and objectives but I like to approach them step by step. The objective is promotion.

“We want to see the whole club happy. I know this is what everyone feels in the dressing room. We want to see everyone smiling at the end of the season because that would be beautiful. The players, their families, the supporters, the staff…all excited that we have gained promotion. That would be a great feeling and that is our objective.”

West Brom fans will no doubt love seeing Pereira say that he wants to stay at the club and play in the Premier League.

He has been a real star for the Black Country side this season and has easily been one of the best players in the whole of the Championship.

Players like him don’t come along very often at West Brom.

Let’s hope he stays as long as possible and is able to realise his dream of playing in blue and white stripes in the top-flight.
