Reliable journalist shares update on West Brom player after false coronavirus reports

Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi has delivered an update on West Brom striker Charlie Austin after reports claimed he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Telegraph released a report claiming that Austin could have contracted the virus and was now warning people to take the pandemic more seriously.

Masi has since shut down those rumours, revealing that he has been self-isolating after experiencing symptoms last weekend.

It is suggested that no other Baggies player has suffered similarly, but that Austin has now made a full recovery in the Midlands.

“Breaking: Update to Austin story,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Despite reports, Albion can confirm Charlie Austin has not been tested for coronavirus. He is self-isolating having experienced symptoms last weekend. However, he is now made a full recovery. And no other Albion player has reported symptoms.”

The Baggies were quick to respond to the rumours and made it clear that no other player in their squad experienced the symptoms after the squad was sent home from training last week.

Austin has very-much been a bit-part player in the Championship this season under Slaven Bilic, but could still play a massive hand in helping his side earn promotion to the Premier League when football returns.

The 30-year-old has scored eight goals this season, with six of those coming off the bench and he may need to improve that record in the final nine games of the season.

It is hard to suggest that he would be a massive miss should he be forced out of action for a period of time, with Austin only completing 13 minutes since his last start against Luton.
