View: West Brom forward signed by Pulis should be up for sale in summer
Oliver Burke is the most expensive player in the history of West Brom but you would not have guessed that based on his performances for the club.
Albion paid £15million [BBC Sport] to sign Burke, 22, from RB Leipzig in 2017 but since his move to the West Midlands, the Scottish forward has done nothing but disappoint.
In 24 appearances across all competitions, the ex-Nottingham Forest attacker has scored just one goal – which came against Luton in the Carabao Cup – and has done nothing to prove his hefty price-tag.
Even in loan spells at Celtic and Alaves, the Scot has failed to impress.
Burke was sent on loan to Celtic Park in the second half of last season but even though the Bhoys cruised to a treble victory against weak opponents, the 22-year-old scored just four goals in 19 appearances when he played mainly as a striker.
And in Spain, Burke’s woes have continued by scoring just one goal in 22 outings and only starting seven La Liga fixtures.
Burke showed so much promise before he joined West Brom but right now, he looks nothing like a £15million player.
Tony Pulis’ big 2017 signing has struggled a lot in Spain this term.
According to stats by WyScout, he has failed to register a single shot on target in his two appearances as a striker and even when played as a winger, he has failed to impress.
Only 18.8 per cent of his crosses have been accurate and only 53.3 per cent of attempted dribbles have been successful.
On average, Burke makes 3.38 touches inside the penalty area per league appearance in Spain and those numbers are simply not good enough for a club that could be in the Premier League next season.
It remains to be seen how much West Brom could sell Burke for in the summer transfer window but it is unlikely to be anywhere near what they paid RB Leipzig for him when
Pulis was in charge in 2017.
But still, it could be best for the club to cut their losses on someone who’ll go down as a major flop in the Black Country.
In other West Brom news, fans have discussed whether they would like to see Saido Berahino return to The Hawthorns.
