Bilic reveals what he changed to transform West Brom form after miserable run

West Brom wouldn’t be where they are in the Championship standings right now if Slaven Bilic didn’t dig his side out of the rut they experienced in December and January.

Before the start of February, Albion had gone seven league matches without a win, suffering home defeats to struggling Middlesbrough and Stoke in the process.

However after the January transfer window closed with a few new signings on board, Bilic was able to resurrect his side’s stuttering promotion charge by winning five out of seven matches in February.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Bilic has discussed how he managed to get West Brom back on track.

“We changed our system a little bit and we made one or two personnel changes,” Bilic said. “But, to be fair, the important thing was the fact that we reacted really well.

“It is always about the first win. The big one for us was against Luton at home. Then we went to Millwall and Reading and won, drew with Forest at home and beat Bristol City away. These were very demanding games but we were very good. The team has the confidence back. That is why we are in a positive situation with nine games to go.

“We are back where we were before Christmas and, of course, we want to stay that way, which will not be easy because the hardest thing is to be consistent. Especially in a situation where consistency doesn’t mean being average. It means being at the top. That is what it takes if you want to win any league let alone the Championship.”

One of the biggest reasons why West Brom’s form has improved so much is the club’s activity in the January transfer window.

Callum Robinson has made the biggest impact since coming in on loan from Sheffield United, standing in on the left-wing during Grady Diangana’s absence.

Before Robinson was signed on loan, West Brom hadn’t won a league game since Diangana’s arrival from West Ham in the summer.

But having someone on that left-wing who can score goals, get assists and wreak havoc on defences has proven key in Albion’s revival.

In other West Brom news, this is why Kenneth Zohore still has so much to prove at The Hawthorns.
