We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has tipped Hal Robson-Kanu to return to the Wales international squad due to his strong form at West Brom this season.

Robson-Kanu, 30, has scored a career-best 10 league goals this season and has transformed from Albion outcast to starting striker for a team that's gunning for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Wales have already qualified for the European Championships but due to the coronavirus pandemic in Europe, they have been postponed until next year.

If the Euros had been held this summer then there is a good chance Robson-Kanu would have been on Ryan Giggs' mind before he decided his squad.

However, with it now being another year away, it remains to be seen what kind of form the Baggies forward will be in when it comes to Giggs' squad deadline.

But if the Wales squad was to be picked right now, Phillips has backed Robson-Kanu to earn a call-up.

"On his current form he would certainly get into the Welsh squad," Phillips told West Brom News.

"It's a big step up but he's shown he can play international football and if he was to go up into the Premier League and perform, he would certainly get that into that Welsh squad for the Euros.

"If Robson-Kanu continues his form when we do reconvene and takes them to the Premier League then one, he'll become an Albion legend and two, he puts himself into a really good position to get into that squad if they were to qualify."

Robson-Kanu has done so well for West Brom this season without having to score many goals.

He has never been much of a goalscorer but the way he links up play with the quality attacking midfielders and wingers Albion have has been crucial to the club's form.

Wales have the likes of Gareth Bale, Harry Wilson and Aaron Ramsey who could take advantage of Robson-Kanu's style of play.
