West Brom turnover plunged £54m after relegation – report
West Brom have released their accounts for the 2018/19 season and the impact of relegation from the Premier League has been laid bare.
According to the Express & Star, Albion’s turnover fell £54million, down from £124.8m to £70.8m, in their first season back in the Championship.
Even though the club’s turnover plummeted, West Brom still only suffered a loss of £7million due to player sales, the wage bill being slashed by half and the first parachute payment.
It is understood the Baggies made a £10million profit on player sales, largely coming from deals involving moves away from The Hawthorns for Jonny Evans, Nacer Chadli, Ben Foster and James McClean.
West Brom’s cost-cutting measures continued into the current season after they missed out on an instant return to the Premier League when Aston Villa knocked them out of the playoffs.
Craig Dawson, Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon were sold in the summer and although Kenneth Zohore became the club’s most-expensive signing in the Championship at £8million, most of the clubs incoming were on cheap deals or on loans.
One loan was for Matheus Pereira, who is widely reported to be set for an £8.25million permanent move to the club after impressing in his first season in English football.
Based on how well he’s played this season, the Brazilian could prove to be a major financial asset for Albion in the future.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has suggested a striker to the Baggies who is making a name for himself in League One.
