West Brom forward Charlie Austin urges people to stay at home

West Brom striker Charlie Austin has taken to social media to urge people to stay at home and follow the government’s guidelines on lockdown.

It has been two weeks since Boris Johnson announced that people must stay home in a bid to lessen the impact of coronavirus on the United Kingdom.

However, as temperatures went up over the weekend, images and videos emerged on social media of people disobeying the rules on only leaving the house for essentials and exercise.

Austin, 30, has already suffered coronavirus symptoms in the last month but appears to have made a full recovery after a period of self-isolation.

The Baggies forward has now urged people to stop going outdoors unless it is neccessary.

“Stay at home you wallys,” Austin wrote on his personal Twitter account at the weekend.

“Stay away from people, self isolate yourself and your family.

“Just because the sun is it out it doesn’t mean you should go sunbathing in a local park or group exercise. When will we learn?”

Austin is absolutely spot on.

Just because the weather is nice, people are off work and the schools are shut, it is not an excuse to start travelling to local beauty spots for sunbathing or picnics.

We are allowed to leave the house for four reasons. To buy food, for medical reasons, for travelling to essential work and for one bit of daily exercise.

The more people flout these rules, the longer the lockdown will go on for and the longer it will take for coronavirus deaths to ease off.

We, as a country, need to be doing better.
