Ferguson sends message to Stephen Hopcroft as recruitment whizz exits West Brom

Nathan Ferguson has paid tribute to Stephen Hopcroft on Twitter after the head of youth recruitment announced his exit from West Brom on Thursday.

It has been almost a month since the Birmingham Mail reported that Hopcroft had handed in his resignation at the Baggies to end 14 years of service to the club.

Hopcroft helped spot players like Rekeem Harper, Jonathan Leko and Saido Berahino before they went on to work their way into the first-team at West Brom.

Ferguson, 19, is another one of Hopcroft’s success stories and he was quick to thank the recruitment whizz on his personal Twitter account after the news was confirmed.

“Owe everything to the man that saw the talent in me from grass routes football. Respectful scout and an amazing person. Thank you,” said Ferguson.

West Brom are going to miss Hopcroft because he has such a great track record of bringing in young players from the surrounding areas who go on to make it in the Baggies’ senior squad.

Ferguson is one of the latest ones to have broken through at The Hawthorns but, unfortunately, it seems that he is going to be on his way out of the club once his contract expires in the summer.

Still, it is encouraging that there are players coming through at Albion who can either play a role in the squad or fetch a decent transfer fee.

In other West Brom news, Kieran Gibbs has been raving about this Baggies attacker.
