ESPN report shares date in June which EFL plans for football to return

West Brom will be able to resume their bid to win promotion on June 6 – if the latest reported plan by the EFL is achievable.

According to ESPN, all 20 Premier League clubs will have a video conference on Friday to discuss the potential return date in early June, which still hinges on whether or not the government will deem it safe for football to return.

Clubs in the top two tiers of German football have been able to return to training, with the Bundesliga potentially reconvening in May.

ESPN reports that the EFL will allow clubs like West Brom to return to training on May 16, handing them a three-week period – effectively a ‘mini pre-season’ – before the 2019/20 season is able to resume.

Slaven Bilic’s side are second in the Championship table and six points clear of third with nine matches to play in their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

Albion fans have been desperate to know when their team will be able to continue playing but it does seem that they will not be able to attend matches, with this report saying that games will take place behind closed doors if they are able to go ahead on June 6.

That date seems a long way away at the moment but it definitely seems that the EFL is working it’s way towards finishing the season rather than voiding it, which is a boost for the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on Albion chief executive Mark Jenkins.
