Bilic confirms double West Brom injury boost for when football returns

Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Grady Diangana and Ahmed Hegazi will be fit and ready to play for West Brom once the football season reconvenes.

Before the coronavirus pandemic brought football to a halt last month, Albion were having to make do without winger Diangana and centre-back Hegazi.

Diangana, 21, had made just three appearances since the 5-1 win over Swansea on December 8, with his last appearance being on January 20, due to hamstring and back issues.

Hegazi, 29, hadn’t been sidelined as long as the West Ham loanee but was forced off in the first half of the 1-0 defeat to Wigan on February 29 before missing the goalless draw at Swansea on March 7.

Both players were facing more time out of action before the Championship season was suspended but once the campaign can reconvene, Baggies manager Bilic says both of them will be fit.

A story on West Brom’s official website says: “He also confirmed that if and when Albion return to action, two players missing from selection because of injury, Ahmed Hegazi and Grady Diangana, will be fully fit to return.”

Diangana has been fantastic for the Baggies this season and he would no doubt be a contender to win the club’s player of the year award if he hadn’t suffered so many injury problems since early December.

However the fact that he can play again – as well as Hegazi – is a welcome boost with Albion having nine matches left to play in their bid to win automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

In other West Brom news, Charlie Austin has admitted he would be open to joining Rangers or Celtic.
