Report: West Brom interested in Croatian centre-back
West Brom are in pursuit of Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, according to Turkish news outlet Sporx.
Slaven Bilic handed Vida, 30, his international debut for Croatia in 2010 and the centre-back has since won 79 caps for his country.
His career has seen him play across Europe for the likes of Croatian sides Osijek and Dinamo Zagreb, German club Bayer Leverkusen, Ukrainian giants Dinamo Kiev and his current club Besiktas.
Since joining the Turkish side in January 2018, Vida has been an ever-present in the heart of their defence and has played 32 times in all competitions this season, scoring four goals in the process.
However it seems that Besiktas – one of Bilic’s former clubs – are willing to cash in on Vida now, with Sporx reporting that his £50,000-a-week wage is too high.
It is understood that the Croatia international will be available in the next transfer window for £8.7million.
It remains to be seen what league West Brom will be playing in next season but Vida will celebrate his 31st birthday before the end of April and we are not convinced that he will be worth the fee that Besiktas want.
Bilic’s links to both the Croatia national team and Besiktas have probably led to this speculation about Vida.
We would be surprised if Albion were seriously planning to sign the 30-year-old defender at this point.
In other West Brom news, Bilic has detailed a double injury boost for the Baggies.
