West Brom striker open to move to either Celtic or Rangers

West Brom striker Charlie Austin has admitted he would be open to joining either Celtic or Rangers at some point in the future.

Austin, 30, only joined the Baggies last summer when he was signed from Southampton in a deal worth £4million [Express & Star].

Although the ex-Burnley and QPR striker is a proven source of goals in the Championship, he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Slaven Bilic’s starting line-up at West Brom.

Since joining, Austin has scored nine goals in 30 appearances but only 13 of his appearances have been starts in the Championship due to Hal Robson-Kanu’s impressive form.

Now, Austin has hinted at what the next move in his career might be with him saying he would consider the possibility of heading to Glasgow if the chance arose.

“The Old Firm derby is the pull isn’t it to play in Scotland,” Austin told the Open Goal podcast on YouTube. “You want to win things as such too. If the opportunity came up would I go? I think so yeah.”

Austin will turn 31-years-old in the summer and enter the final 12 months of his two-year contract at West Brom.

Based on his lack of starts this season and the fact that Albion are likely to win promotion, there’s a chance Austin will be deemed surplus to requirements by Bilic in the Premier League.

If that happens then maybe someone like Rangers or Celtic will come calling for a striker who has proven time and time again in his career that he knows where the back of the net is.

In other West Brom news, Alaves are willing to sign Oliver Burke on a permanent deal.
