‘Beggars belief’ – Neil Warnock wants to see West Brom finish their season

Neil Warnock is dead against the idea of finishing the Championship season early and wants to see West Brom continue their bid for promotion.

As it stands, Albion are second in the Championship table – one point behind leaders Leeds and six ahead of third-placed Fulham – with nine matches left to play.

Slaven Bilic’s side have been in the automatic promotion spots almost all season and declaring the season null and void now would undo all the magnificent work the Croat has done since being appointed in charge last year.

Another possible idea is to finish the season now with teams staying in their current positions, which would mean West Brom would win promotion.

However ex-Sheffield United and Cardiff manager Warnock is hopeful that West Brom and Leeds can play out their remaining fixtures and win promotion on the football pitch.

“I hope not,” Warnock said on talkSPORT on Thursday (8.30am) when asked if the Championship season could be stopped early. “I think even the National League, they should finish when this is all over. I can’t see why they can’t finish as and when the country can let it happen.

“I don’t agree with the cancelling thing. It’s the easy option. They should leave it until it’s impossible to play on.

“I think it’s fairer to finish the season. The likes of Leeds and West Brom… it beggars belief that their season might not finish. Even if it means finishing it in September.”

We all want to see the Baggies go up this season and although we wouldn’t be against it happening by an off-field decision, we would rather it happen on the pitch.

With nine matches left to play, there has got to be a way to get those fixtures completed. It’s not as if it’s half a season and it could be done in a period of a few weeks.
