Jonathan Greening hails ‘fantastic’ West Brom senior player

Jonathan Greening has named his top West Brom XI from his time at the club and, of course, Chris Brunt features on the left-wing.

Brunt, 35, is likely to leave The Hawthorns in the summer once his contract with the Baggies expires.

The former Northern Ireland international, who won the Championship title alongside Greening in 2007/08, has made 419 appearances in total since joining Albion from Sheffield Wednesday in August 2007 but has found it tough to add to that tally under Slaven Bilic.

Still, ex-West Brom captain Greening has remained full of praise for Brunt, paying tribute to the midfielder’s wicked ability to strike a ball with his left foot, as well as his delivery from free-kicks and corners.

“Another wand of a left peg, Brunty’s quality from set-pieces was outstanding,” Greening told the Express & Star.

“He brings assists and goals, but he is also a team player and a top pro with a fantastic attitude.

“The only thing he was missing was a tan but I’m sure when he’s retired he will work on it. Oh, and he didn’t lift a trophy as skipper.”

West Brom

Greening’s Albion XI is certainly one that will bring good memories flooding back to West Brom supporters.

He has picked Dean Kiely in goals and a back-four of Carl Hoefkens, Chris Perry, Neil Clement and Paul Robinson.

In the midfield he’s opted for Jason Koumas, Robert Koren, James Morrison, Zoltan Gera and Brunt. (Wow!)

And up front, Kevin Phillips takes up the lone striker role in a team that would no doubt score goals for fun.

In other West Brom news, Phillips claims this Albion forward is bound to leave the club in the summer.
