View: West Brom fans shouldn’t worry as Turkish club reportedly holds talks to hire Bilic
Fenerbahce are in talks about trying to lure Slaven Bilic away from West Brom and hire him as their new manager, according to Sabah.
The Turkish newspaper has claimed Bilic’s Croatian compatriots Nenad Bjelica and Zlatko Dalic are also in the scope of Fenerbahce as they aim to replace Ersun Yanal, who was sacked earlier this season.
Sport Witness translate Sabah’s story as saying that former Besiktas manager Bilic would be interested in a return to Turkey to take charge at Fenerbahce.
However, we find this really hard to believe.
West Brom have nine matches to play of their Championship season and, as it stands, are six points clear of third place.
It would take a brave man to bet against the Baggies winning automatic promotion once the season is able to resume so why would Bilic quit a job that could take him to the Premier League to join Fenerbahce, who are seventh in the Turkish Super Lig?
Fenerbahce aren’t the powerhouse of Anatolian football that they once were and due to West Brom being one of the best-run clubs in England, it is hard to see how a job there would be more attractive than one at The Hawthorns.
Even if the Baggies were mid-table in the Championship and had no chance of winning promotion, a manager like Bilic would surely rather stick it out in the West Midlands and try to work his way back into the Premier League somehow.
Don’t worry Albion fans, we would be amazed if Bilic left us without completing the task in hand.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips says this Albion player could be worth around £3million this summer.
