Ally Robertson thrilled by EFL proposal that could see West Brom complete season in summer

West Brom legend Ally Robertson is delighted with the EFL’s current plan to finish the season within a period of 56 days.

Earlier this month, the Guardian reported that the EFL wrote to clubs to inform them of their plan to complete the currently-suspended 2019/20 campaign, starting in June after resuming training on May 16.

EFL chairman Rick Parry then wrote an open letter to fans saying that he is hopeful that all fixtures that will be playing behind closed doors will be broadcasted so that fans can watch their team play out the remaining games of their season.

For West Brom fans, it will be gutting not to be at The Hawthorns to see Slaven Bilic’s side seal promotion back to the Premier League but we would all agree that this option is far, far better than the season being declared null and void.

Albion hero Robertson is also a fan of the EFL’s current plan.

“I think it would be fantastic if we are able to finish the season in 56 days,” he told the Express & Star. “Of course, it will come down to how safe it is to do so. But it is what the clubs are talking about and it’s exciting to know it’s on the table because I think everybody wants to see that something is happening.

“You could easily fit the remaining games into that time period. And it seems likely all the matches will also be shown on TV which would be brilliant.

“It’s been described as a festival of football and I think fans would love it. It will lift everyone’s spirits having been stuck indoors for so long.”

The nation could do with a lift at the moment and once it is safe for football to return, albeit behind closed doors, then that will be a major boost to those who live and breathe the game.

West Brom have been a joy to watch this season and Albion fans are feeling deprived of seeing Matheus Pereira tear up the Championship with Hal Robson-Kanu bossing defences, Jake Livermore patrolling the midfield and Semi Ajayi frightening the life out of strikers.

We need that back. Sooner, hopefully, rather than later.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has tipped Albion to pursue two Aston Villa players if they replace the Villans in the Premier League.
