Harper & Edwards host Q&A session with budding West Brom youngsters

Rekeem Harper and Kyle Edwards have held a Q&A session with a group of West Brom academy prospects to help them in their development while in lockdown.

Harper, 20, and Edwards, 22, are two of Albion’s recent success stories having been brought up in the local area, rising through the academy and becoming first-team regulars.

While Harper played a bigger role last season for Darren Moore, he has still made nine appearances in all competitions under Slaven Bilic this term, with most of those coming in the weeks leading up to the coronavirus-enforced suspension of football.

Edwards has been used a lot by Bilic with the Dudley-born forward appearing 28 times this term and scoring two goals in the process.

Both players have been speaking in a group web chat to the youngsters following in their footsteps and academy manager Richard Stevens has described how useful than can be for them.

“We made it a point over the last six weeks that we as an Academy were going to try and do something new every day,” Stevens told the club’s official website. “The stories Rekeem and Kyle were telling the boys were priceless.

“They talked about their debuts, position changes and what they were saying was instantly powerful for the younger guys.

“It was fantastic for the Under-23s to pass on their experiences on how they’ve dealt with challenges as well and you could tell by Rekeem and Kyle’s answers that they loved it – each one had a story to it.”

What a great idea that is and credit to Harper and Edwards for getting involved.

Even though both of them are in their early 20s and classed as inexperienced players, they have shown maturity beyond their years by acting as role models to those who are aiming to break through into the senior squad like they have.
