‘Baller’ – Charlie Austin raves about West Brom team-mate after seeing impressive stat

Charlie Austin has heaped praise on team-mate Romaine Sawyers after seeing the West Brom playmaker’s impressive passing stats this season.

Twitter account playmakerstats posted a tweet on Monday morning that listed the players with the highest pass completion rate in the Championship, out of those with 25 or more appearances.

Unsurprisingly to West Brom fans, Sawyers leads the way with a 90.2 per cent pass accuracy while Fulham duo Tom Cairney [89.6%] and Tim Ream [89.5%] come second and third respectively.

Sawyers has been a mainstay of West Brom’s midfield this term and although he has come in for some criticism by supporters in the last few months, Albion hero Kevin Phillips has labelled the ex-Walsall ace as “one of West Brom’s bright lights this season”.

After seeing those passing stats, striker Austin could not help but big up his team-mate, taking to his personal Twitter account to say: “This man is a baller.”

Sawyers has a very high pass accuracy rate but he has been criticised mainly for the number of sideways and backward passes he makes.

While it is frustrating at times, Sawyers’ ball retention is second to none in the Championship and the Baggies are lucky to have a player like that in their side.

Sawyers has missed four Championship matches this term with Albion winning two and losing two without him.

He deserves more credit than he is getting.
