‘Money talks’ – Exclusive: Phillips says ‘ridiculous’ offer could tempt West Brom man

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has admitted that a “ridiculous” offer could be enough to force Slaven Bilic into considering his future at West Brom.

Phillips’ comment comes in light of reported interest from Fenerbahce after Sabah claimed the Turkish club have started talks to snap up the Baggies boss.

Fenerbahce are not exactly the powerhouse of Turkish football they once were with them currently placed seventh in the suspended Super Lig season.

As for West Brom, they’re on course for promotion back to the Premier League and Phillips believes the lure of England’s top-flight would keep Bilic at The Hawthorns.

“It’s only Slaven who can answer that,” Phillips told West Brom News when asked if Bilic would stay if Albion missed out on promotion.

“I would love to see him stay, I think he’s done a great job but I don’t even want to think about them staying in the Championship, I think they will go up if we do reconvene. He’ll want to manage them in the Premier League.

“He looks very comfortable in this league, he loves managing here and has the passion.

“But, football being football, money talks and if Fenerbahce come in and offer ridiculous money then you’ve seen it before when managers move on.”

A ridiculous offer from Fenerbahce is unlikely to be anywhere near what West Brom could offer Bilic to keep him at The Hawthorns if they win promotion.

Although there is a fair bit of money in the Turkish top-flight, it doesn’t even compare to the riches of the Premier League and perhaps even the Championship.

Albion fans shouldn’t worry about Fenerbahce’s interest. It is something that has rumbled on for a few weeks now but nothing serious seems to be coming from it.
