Sky Sports pundit would like to see WBA & Leeds promoted if ‘great idea’ fails to materialise

Jermaine Beckford has claimed that he would like to see Leeds United and West Brom promoted to the Premier League if the season is abandoned.

The Sky Sports pundit claims that teams in the play-offs are in more of a lucky dip situation, with the top-two in a more secure place for promotion.

West Brom lost top spot to Leeds in the final matchday before the enforced break, although both have occupied the automatic spots for the majority of the season.

Beckford claimed that behind-closed-doors is a great idea for the Championship but they must be smart with how they bring football back.

“It’s vitally important the season is finished. But as long as it’s safe to do it. Behind closed doors is a great idea, a great way to do it. However, the financial costs will be big,” he told Sky Sports’ Football Show.

“Another issue is the venues, where the games would take place. If the league can’t continue I’d like to see Leeds and West Brom promoted. It’s difficult with teams in the play-offs, it would almost be a lucky dip.”

It is nearing the conclusion that there could be no return of football at all, with Times reporter Martyn Ziegler revealing that a number of Championship clubs are wanting the season to end.

If that was to happen, the point-per-game method would be used to decide where teams will finish – good news for the Baggies is that automatic promotion would be secured with that method.
