Times journalist: ‘Growing number’ of C’Ship clubs support plan that could hand WBA promotion
A growing number of Championship clubs are wanting the season to be finished early, a decision that could hand promotion to West Brom and Leeds, according to Times journalist Martyn Ziegler.
The chief sports reporter for the newspaper claimed that the season could be decided by a points-per-game method.
Leeds and West Brom currently occupy the automatic promotion spots in the Championship and have done so for the majority of the season.
Everything is looking up for the Baggies hopes of promotion, with the Times also reporting that the FA are planning to rid any plans to scrap relegation from the Premier League.
Should three teams face the drop this season, it will open up those spots for the likes of West Brom and Leeds to make the step up.
There is a Premier League meeting set to take place on Monday afternoon, and the Mail’s chief sports reporter Matt Hughes has seen the agenda for the 20 clubs.
It has been revealed by Hughes that scrapping relegation is not on the list of matters to be discussed, even more good news for the Baggies.
It would be fully deserved if both West Brom and Leeds were handed promotion, and that would happen if the PPG method was used.
The Baggies would finish second behind Marcelo Bielsa’s squad but promotion would be secured easily.
Before the enforced break, prediction expert Nate Silver revealed that West Brom stood an 88% chance of promotion and that could be about to come true with this latest update [FiveThirtyEight].
