Report – Plan outlined for West Brom & other Ch’ship clubs to begin Coronavirus testing

West Brom and other Championship clubs will start Coronavirus testing on their players later this week as they gear up for a return to action, according to Sky Sports.

A report from the outlet states that sides in the second tier will begin to roll out examinations for their squads on Thursday and Friday ahead of a potential resumption of training next Monday.

Although guidelines have encouraged clubs to test their players once a week, it is understood that teams will follow the Premier League’s example and test professionals twice weekly.

Sky claim that results from tests will be available to clubs within just 24 hours, although it is also understood at this stage that those results will not be made public.

Any player or member of staff who has not been tested this week will not be allowed inside a training ground on Monday, and it is also stated that ground staff will leave the facilities before playing staff arrive.

This feels like a real step towards getting matches up and running again.

Testing is going to be a central component of any kind of resumption in play, and the sooner that process begins, the sooner teams can get back to planning for a return to competitive action.

For West Brom, that really is the best outcome from this ongoing crisis.

With nine games left to play, and rumblings that Premier League clubs will try and oppose promotion if the Championship season is not completed, it is still very clear that the surest way for the Baggies to clinch a spot in the top flight next term is to win it outright on the pitch.

Hopefully, this latest update shows that we’re moving in the right direction.
