Some West Brom fans call for Hawthorns refurbishment

A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to say that they want to see the club refurbish the Halfords Lane stand.

Albion’s West Stand is the smallest at The Hawthorns, with 3,773 seats that account for 14 per cent of the entire stadium’s capacity.

Over the last decade, there have been plans to upgrade the capacity of the Black Country venue but those plans fell apart while Jeremy Peace was at the club and Mark Jenkins said in February that it would only be expanded if there was enough demand to do so.

Although it probably doesn’t make financial sense to expand The Hawthorns any time soon, West Brom fans have been discussing the possibility of making the Halfords Lane stand bigger than it currently is.

One fan even called it a “League Two size” stand.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

West Brom fans aren’t the only ones who want to see the Halfords Lane stand expanded with Kevin Phillips exclusively telling West Brom News that he would also want to see it redeveloped.

It would be a risk though, especially when the club isn’t established in the Premier League.

Maybe, when we’re five or six years down the line it can be discussed more seriously.

But, at the moment, we would just be happy to see the stand re-named after a legendary player like Jeff Astle or Cyrille Regis.

In other West Brom news, Wayne Rooney has hit out at an EFL decision that will affect the Baggies.
