View: West Brom may be handed significant Matheus Pereira transfer boost based on new report

West Brom had to delay their first payment to Sporting CP to complete the permanent transfer of Matheus Pereira fans needn’t worry about the club’s finances based on a new report by the Telegraph.

According to respected journalist John Percy, the Baggies are set to be handed a “significant” £10million cash boost in the next two months that will ease their financial concerns amid the coronavirus-enforced suspension of football.

It is understood that Albion will receive this sum of money due to instalments that are owed to them by Burnley, Watford and Dalian Yifang.

Jay Rodriguez joined Burnley for an initial £5million fee last summer but the Telegraph reports that by the end of July, the Clarets will have had to pay the Baggies another £5million.

Craig Dawson’s and Salomon Rondon’s moves away from The Hawthorns last summer account for the other £5million that West Brom are owed and that might hand the club a major boost in their bid to sign loan star Pereira on a permanent deal.

Pereira, 24, has tore up the Championship this season, scoring six goals and supplying 16 assists in 33 league appearances since his loan move from Sporting CP last summer.

West Brom have had the option to sign the Brazilian attacker on a permanent basis for just £8.25million but the club had to delay that payment to Sporting due to the season being suspended and the club’s stream of income pretty much halted [Express & Star].

Initially, the Baggies were to make their first payment on May 31 but now the Black Country club will pay up once the Championship season is completed.

But this £10million boost could help Albion pay up for Pereira sooner rather than later.

Let’s say the season resumes but not until the end of June or start of July. That means the club’s promotion campaign might not finish until we hit August or, if the EFL are that keen to finish the season, September.

West Brom fans won’t want to wait around that long to see Pereira become their player on a full-time basis so a large chunk of that £10million windfall could help seal a permanent transfer for the popular South American.
