View: West Brom sensation reportedly on radar of PL clubs can be everything Berahino was not
West Brom are likely to be sweating over the future of Rayhaan Tulloch with the teenager’s contract due to expire next month and speculation surrounding his future hotting up.
Rangers have been linked with signing the 19-year-old for some time but the Scottish Sun has recently reported that Brighton and West Ham are also keen on the young attacker.
West Brom still want Tulloch to agree terms to signing a new contract even though they’ll be due a compensation fee if he moves to a club in England. However, if Rangers are successful in their pursuit of the teen, Albion will receive next to nothing for one of their hottest prospects.
Tulloch has been in deadly form for the Under-23s this season, scoring nine goals and supplying four assists in 14 Premier League 2 appearances for the Baggies.
He has also started to feature more regularly in Slaven Bilic’s first-team with him appearing three times off the bench in the FA Cup and being named on the bench for the Championship win against Luton in February.
Tulloch is one of West Brom’s best young players and it is imperative that the club gets him tied down to a new contract as soon as possible because he could become a real star in the future.
The Baggies have developed a lot of good young players in recent years but none of their academy products in the last decade have matched up to Saido Berahino’s accomplishments in the first-team.
Berahino, 26, scored 36 goals in 121 appearances for the Baggies and even earned himself a call-up to the England team in 2014.
But Berahino let speculation about his future get to his head and it ended with him having a huge bust-up with former chairman Jeremy Peace, run-ins with the police and, eventually, a spectacular implosion of what was supposed to be a promising carer.
Tulloch could become everything Berahino was not.
Berahino was meant to be the next big thing at West Brom but he let transfer talk run his career into the ground but Tulloch can ignore the talk about his future, sign new terms at The Hawthorns and continue to break into the senior squad under Bilic.
It might be wise to send the 19-year-old out on loan ahead of next season for him to earn some invaluable first-team experience but after that, the attacker’s career could really take off.
He’s done nothing but impress at West Brom so far with stats by WyScout showing his xG in FA Cup appearances to be 0.33 as well as having a 90.9 per cent pass accuracy and winning 100 per cent of his aerial duels. In comparison, Hal Robson-Kanu’s xG in the Championship is 0.34, his pass accuracy is 77.5 per cent and his aerial duel success is 22.4 per cent.
Tulloch could be West Brom’s next best attacker if he signs on the dotted line and snubs the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Rangers.
In other West Brom news, Albion are to be handed a potentially huge boost in their bid to sign Matheus Pereira permanently.
