‘Superb’ – Bilic left ‘surprised’ by ‘exceptional’ West Brom training update
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has admitted that he was left “surprised” by how well his players trained during their period of isolation.
The Baggies will step up their return to the training ground this week ahead of a planned resumption of Championship action next month.
In the interim period, the Albion squad has to train individually at home, but Bilic has been left suitably impressed with his players’ efforts.
As quoted by the Express and Star, the Croatian said: “They have been great – we expected that to be fair, that is why we gave them those kinds of programmes.
“But every one of one them surprised me to be fair in a positive way.
“I knew they had a big motivation and they were going to be very professional and good. But they have not been good they have been exceptional. They have been superb.
“They all stuck to their individual programmes and they did them even better than we expected.”
This is a really positive piece of news from Bilic, and one that should give fans plenty of confidence ahead of a potential restart in our promotion push.
Our form had stuttered a little prior to the lockdown, with the Baggies dropping points in three of their last five matches.
But it sounds as if the squad is hungry to get started again, and hopefully the fitness work that has impressed Bilic so much can give them the edge over their rivals when play does resume.
We have also heard concerns from U23s coach Boaz Myhill about his scepticism over players’ fitness levels as they are pushed back into competitive action without the usual amount of preparation.
Again, those fears will surely be lessened by Bilic’s update here, and if we can hit the ground running with so few games remaining, it should be enough to see us secure a Premier League spot for next term.
