‘Never experienced anything like it’ – Leeds talent names West Brom clash as best of his career
Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts has named a match against West Brom as the best game he has ever played in.
The 21-year-old hitman started his career with the Baggies, but made just one senior appearance for Albion – a 17 minute cameo in a 1-1 Premier League draw against Liverpool in 2016.
The forward, who is now a full Welsh international, made the switch to Elland Road in January 2018, but saw fit to mention his former side when reflecting on his career so far.
Speaking during a Q&A on the Whites’ official Twitter account, he said: “The best Leeds game I’ve played in was against my old club West Brom because the noise and the atmosphere – I’ve never experienced anything like it.
“I’ve been to watch football games and I still haven’t heard that type of vibe or atmosphere going on. It was definitely that game.
“We’ll see if it can ever be beaten.”
This probably isn’t too much of a surprise, truth be told.
Roberts is a young player with not real top flight experience to speak of, and if this season has taught us anything it’s that when it comes to the Championship, the two biggest clubs in the division are definitely us and Leeds.
The young striker came all the way the through the Baggies’ youth system before leaving in 2018, and while he has yet to set the world alight, there have definitely been flashes of his potential over the past couple of years that have made his exit seem a little disappointing.
Three goals in 14 Championship appearances is hardly a massive haul, but he’s still only 21, and should get plenty of opportunities to prove himself as time goes by – especially now that he is a full international.
Here’s hoping we don’t come to regret letting him go further down the line.
