View: Blunt comments from reported West Brom target surely show mooted swoop won’t be easy
With promotion to the Premier League firmly on the cards this summer, it’s highly likely that West Brom will be at the centre of plenty of transfer speculation in the coming weeks and months.
Already we have seen the Baggies linked with the likes of Kosovo international Vedat Muriqi, as per Turkish outlet Fanatik, and the latest name to be thrown into the ring for a potential swoop is that of Argentine striker Adolfo Gaich, as per TYC Sports.
The 21-year-old is nicknamed “The Tank”, and is said to be a target for the likes of Inter Milan and Atalanta, as well as Albion.
Currently plying his trade for San Lorenzo in his home country, the hitman has struck five times in 12 league outings this term, and certainly lives up to his impressive nickname.
The South American has contested an average of 8.95 more duels than Charlie Austin this season, as per Wyscout, and has won an 12.8% more of his aerial battles than the Baggies striker.
But a recent interview from Gaich might just cast some doubt over the prospect of him making a move this summer.
Speaking to the Argentinian FA earlier this week, the forward said: “The rumours about offers from European clubs never affected my level of football, because I know that most are just rumours.”
Now obviously, there’s nothing in Gaich’s comments to suggest that he is dead set against making a move to England in the coming months, but his blunt assessment certainly puts a dampener on things.
If nothing else, it gives the impression of a player who has heard this kind of speculation before, and who refuses to be drawn into idle chat about his future.
A more concerning interpretation would be that Gaich isn’t interested in the prospect of moving to Europe at all, however, and his happy with his lot at San Lorenzo.
Whichever is true, these comments would seemingly suggest that Albion will have a tough job on their hands if they are to lure him to The Hawthorns for next season.
