‘Absolutely no chance’ – Some West Brom fans react to reported transfer ‘gamble’

West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express their doubts over signing Argentinian striker Adolfo Gaich.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a target for the Baggies after a report from TYC Sports outlined their interest in the hitman.

The piece also suggested that Serie A sides Inter Milan and Atalanta are keeping tabs on the player.

The forward has hit five goals in 12 league outings this summer, and is understood to have a release clause of around £12 million written into his contract.

But any hopes of West Brom snapping him up seemingly took a significant blow on Saturday when his agent, Pablo Carro, suggested that his client would rather move to Italy this summer.

As quoted by reliable journalist Nicolo Schira, he said: “He would like to move to #SerieA, but he is targeted by many clubs.”

Carro’s comments came after the player himself admitted that he paid little attention to speculation linking him with a move to Europe in the coming months.

But even before this quotes came to light, many Baggies fans were questioning whether the club have the financial capability or indeed whether signing Gaich was a good idea or not in the first place.

You can certainly understand where those doubts come from.

Even with the potential backing of Premier League money, £12 million is not an inconsiderable amount to splash out, especially for a player who has never played in Europe.

When news then broke of Carro’s comments and Gaich’s preference, some fans seemed entirely unsurprised by the update.

The draw of European football with a club like Inter or Atalanta would be a difficult one to ignore for any player, especially when there is such a healthy contingent of Argentinian talent plying their trade over in Italy.

The best we can hope for now is that even if we do miss out on Gaich, we have greater success in our other summer pursuits.
