View: £800k West Brom player likely to drop down pecking order once season resumes

It remains to be seen what role January signing Kamil Grosicki will play for West Brom once the Championship season is able to resume.

Grosicki may be celebrating his 32nd birthday next month but he is, without doubt, one of the fastest players in the Championship and was signed by Slaven Bilic in he hope that he could make a huge impact as a squad player.

Since his £800,000 arrival from Hull City, the Poland international has not started a match for the Baggies, appearing seven times as a substitute.

On his debut against Millwall, Grosicki assisted Dara O’Shea goal to seal a 2-0 win at The Den as Strom Ciara battered the nation.

But other than assisting O’Shea’s first goal for the club in February, what else has Grosicki done to assist the Baggies’ promotion bid?

Grosicki has definitely stepped up his game in terms of the number of dribbles he’s attempting in each game compared to the first half of the season at Hull.

According to WhoScored, the Polish winger averaged 2.5 dribbles per 90 minutes of Championship action at the KCOM, successfully completing 1.2 of them.

At West Brom, Grosicki has averaged 4.6 attempted per 90 minutes, which ranks him third in the squad behind Grady Diangana [5.9] and Kyle Edwards [5.1].

But what about the end product of those dribbles?

Stats by WyScout show that Grosicki has attempted 14 crosses as a West Brom player but only completed three of them. That 21 per cent success rate is worse than Diangana’s 39.1 per cent accuracy, Callum Robinson’s 29.6 per cent and Edwards’ 32.4 per cent.

As for shots, Grosicki seems to be allergic to them by only having five attempts at goal since joining the Baggies.

There was one moment in the win against Preston in February where Grosicki came off the bench, dribbled past a defender and even though he was through on goal, he stopped in his tracks and turned his back to goal, frustrating those in the Birmingham Road End.

Grosicki might find it tough to get a game for West Brom once the Championship season resumes as Diangana is now fit enough to play.

It leaves Bilic with four options to start on the left-wing in Diangana, Robinson, Edwards and the former Hull star while Hal Robson-Kanu can also be stuck out there if needed.

We don’t expect to see Grosicki start any games for West Brom once the season is back underway but hopefully he can provide an impact in the same way he did against Millwall in February.

In other West Brom news, Lee Hendrie has tipped this Baggies star to do well in the Premier League if he bases his game on a Wolves player.
