View: Vague comments from 26y/o reported West Brom target don’t bode well for Baggies
The reported link between West Brom and Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi already feels as if it has transfer saga written all over it.
The window hasn’t even opened yet and we’ve heard plenty of speculation about the Kosovo international, with Turkish outlet Fanatik even going as far as to suggest that the Baggies are willing to sell a number of players to raise the funds needed to secure his services this summer.
It’s easy to see why Albion are so enamoured with him too.
Muriqi is a big, powerful forward with an eye for goal and a surprising amount of ability for a man of his size.
Fifteen goals and six assists across 28 outings in Turkey this season is a very decent return and, as examined by West Brom News in some detail recently, the 26-year-old possesses a lot of positive traits that could make him a real hit in England, if we can get a deal over the line.
But the chances of that happening might just have taken a hit following the player’s latest admission about his transfer situation.
As quoted by Fanatik, he said: ““I’m at Turkey’s biggest club. I can’t talk about the market.
“I have a three-year contract and everything depends on the club. Fenerbahce gives the decision. First comes the request of the club.
“I’ll do the best to stay until the end of my contract.”
To some extent, you can forgive Muriqi for being quite vague about his future.
He wouldn’t exactly endear himself to his current employers by openly stating that he wants to pack his bags and move to The Hawthorns.
But equally, that comment about wanting to do his “best” to stay until the end of his current contract doesn’t bode particularly well for the Baggies.
On the basis of these remarks, Muriqi doesn’t exactly seem like a player who is itching for a new challenge, and that could be a problem for Albion.
